The Race Car Project

  • January 25, 2013

For over five years I have owned a 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo who's fate has changed quite regularly. Originally it was bought with the intention of restoring and building it into a street-rod but after a more detailed post-purchase inspection that plan was scrapped due to the cars overall poor condition. NASCAR is no exception and early in 2010 when I realized that I had an upcoming open weekend coinciding with a NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway, I seized on the opportunity to attend! I purchased a cheap ticket on the backstretch through a local seller on craigslist and planned to drive up from San Antonio early in the morning on the day of the race. As the date drew closer however, rain loomed heavily...
