Getting Away for a Day

  • March 10, 2013

Sarah and I enjoyed a quick day trip to Krause Springs today! I had never been before but it was a beautiful area and it was a lot of fun to get out of San Antonio for the day. We hiked for a bit, enjoyed a picnic lunch, and played a few games of chess as we watched the sun set. We had a great time and I was able to get a few great shots of the waterfalls within the park.

The Race Car Project

  • January 25, 2013

For over five years I have owned a 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo who's fate has changed quite regularly. Originally it was bought with the intention of restoring and building it into a street-rod but after a more detailed post-purchase inspection that plan was scrapped due to the cars overall poor condition. After mulling over my options, I decided I would simply build it into a race car and run it for fun at our local track (South Texas Speedway). I began to work on it little by little but never really made much progress due to the time constraints of going to graduate school and working full-time. Finally...

The Cajun Adventure

  • December 16, 2012

While having dinner with Sarah's parents one November evening, the topic of New Orleans found its way into our conversation and it was quickly revealed that I had never been before. Upon learning this, Sarah's parents immediately started talking about all of the great restaurants that one simply must visit when they go, leading them to reminisce on the time that they themselves had spent in the city. Before I knew it, the decision was made that it had been too long since their last visit and that Sarah and I should join them for a return trip sometime soon. After glancing over a calender...

F1 and The Circuit of the Americas

  • November 18, 2012

When I originally heard that Formula 1 was coming back to the United States I got excited that someday I might be able to go to one of the races. When I learned that they would be building a state of the art track and hosting the race in Austin, Texas my excitement grew exponentially with the prospect of attending a race much sooner than I ever expected. Sure enough almost a year and a half later I was holding tickets for my fiancee and I to attend the Inaugural US Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas race track. Given that neither of us had ever been to a Formula 1 race, neither of us knew...

The Proposal at the Top of Texas

  • November 3, 2012

Sarah and I officially started dating on November 2nd, 2011 and to celebrate our first year together we decided to return to the site of one of our favorite adventures. The plan was to drive up to Carlsbad, NM on Friday the 2nd and then get up early to climb Guadalupe Peak on Saturday the 3rd. Unbeknownst to Sarah, I had also made a few other plans for the trip as well. When we originally climbed Guadalupe Peak last winter we had no idea what to expect or how difficult the endeavor actually was, still through snow and fog we fought our way to the top of the mountain and for a moment we stood higher...

The Sunfish Project

  • September 15, 2012

When I was younger, my father used to race sailboats out in the Corpus Christi Bay and occasionally I would get to ride along. Ever since then, I've always wanted to try my hand at sailing and so I figured now is as good a time as any. After keeping my eye on Craigslist and eBay for a few weeks, I've finally found the perfect project sailboat for me to restore over the next few months and hopefully have ready by next spring. It's a 1975 Alcort Sunfish that's in fairly decent condition. After getting it home and surveying my purchase, I've created the following list of things that need to be addressed...

As Seen On Tosh.0

  • July 31, 2012

In the early morning hours of August 1st, 2012, I began to receive a barrage of text and Facebook messages from old high school friends. At first I simply ignored them thinking I was tagged in another one of those ridiculous mass message Facebook posts but as my phone continued to vibrate uncontrollably I eventually picked it up to see what all the fuss was about. As I perused through my notifications I quickly realized that one of the videos some friends and I had made in high school had been used the night before on the season finale of Tosh.0 (A TV Show on Comedy Central)! After some quick...

The Great Western US Road Trip 2012

  • May 27, 2012

5500 Miles, 17 States, 9 Days, 1 Epic Adventure (WORK IN PROGRESS!) Preface: Late in 2011 the idea of an epic road trip began to bounce around between Sarah and I. After some loose planning and thought we came up with the idea to drive through every state north and west of Texas while hitting several of our "Life List" destinations in the process. We didn't want to plan everything out to the last detail so that we could leave ourselves open to opportunities along the way but we did plot each of our desired stops on a map to establish a route that would help us reach each of them while also passing...

Officially Graduated With My MBA!

  • May 17, 2012

As 2010 was winding down to a close I reflected back on my first full year out of school and was immensely disappointed in what I had accomplished during that time. Not only had I not furthered my career or education in anyway, but I had not gone on any truly noteworthy adventures. Never one to settle for complacency, I immediately decided to embark on another foray towards a degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Having completed my undergraduate work there and given its close proximity, I felt that it was the best choice for me to complete my first graduate degree. Due to the rules...

The Top of Texas

  • December 15, 2011

It was early December and 2011 was winding down to an end when my girlfriend Sarah asked me how I would rate the past year as a whole? Naturally I noted that I had met her that year so it was the best year ever, but I felt that there was still a void. I had started Grad School in the Spring and competed in the Texas Mile in May, but something was missing. I thought about it for a while, before I realized that I could not recall having gone on any grand adventure that year. As we discussed the topic, Sarah casually mentioned that she would go on any adventure that I wanted to so that I could finish...
